April at Samson this year saw us finishing the 1950s and moving into the 1960s. We learned about McCarthyism and then shifted our focus to the Civil Rights Movement. We learned about the assassination of JFK and the Presidency of Lyndon Johnson. We learned about the March on Selma and the Civil Rights Acts of 1964 and 1965.

We learned about the photographer Gordon Parks and the quilts of Gee’s Bend, and we listened to Motown artists like the Miracles, The Supremes, the Temptations, and the Marvelettes. We also learned about the emergence of pop artists like Roy Lichtenstein.

With the arrival of spring, we rejoined efforts at the community garden to pull winter plants and install new ones for the upcoming season.

Things are always growing at Samson Academy!
